Is three the charm? The last three items are all about Provia 100F in negative film chemicals. Post processing was/is somewhat expiremental. Better scans and yet another interpretation of the color. This time with thee cast removed via white balance. Actually an interesting, subtle palette.

New Exelon building
Provia 100F in C-41 is supposed to look greenish, not what ever I got yesterday. Simplier conversion, invert the negative, set the white balance, fine tune, sharpen. done. So these now look sort of greenish.

Instigated by Robert Adams and Andrew Boroweic photos of housing developments. Adams in Colorado ca. 1970, Borowiec ca. 2015 mostly in Ohio. Easy to google targets along with some other mostly ex-urban spots along the way to and from. Finally some in Harbor East to finish the roll.
I tried some cross processing of Fuji Provia 100F E-6 slide film in color negative C-41 chemicals — supposed to yield really crazy colors. In this case not a very compelling outcome so glad I only bought two rolls. Not sure what I am going to do with the other. Shot on the M2 with the 50mm Elmar.

Third time, 2013, 2014 and 2016. No idea why i didin't go last year. Third time is the charm — got exactly the look I wanted. Well, at least for the first two rolls. Some sort of development screwup with the second two rolls. Managed to salvage the last three (sort of) in the computer.
Alas, as Brando said very pre-Uber Hoboken... "A one way ticket to palookaville"... "I could have been a contentender." HAH!

US 40 South in Aberdeen
Was feeling in the mood for gritty for the start of the 4th of July weekend. Headed north to slide along the MD part of the Susquehanna and shot with 35mm 400 ISO B&W. Griity subject and gritty tools. Gritty and very grainy results. Keeping with gritty theme especially with the tryanny of 36 shot rolls, the clean-up hygenie is marginal. Will worry about that if there are ever any prints.

Color mnatched gecco
No talls today. Just wides. And in color. As seems to be the usual with the 617, I forgot to focus on the first shot. Also shot an experimental second roll. Good was experimant becuase I botched the developmment. Need to figure out how to stay connected when developing, which is brain dead process, always some mistake or another. Up 'till now have been recoverable — this one wasn't.
So just three out eight. On Portra 400, which looks to be a keeper. Click on the gecco for the other two.
Confluence of I 95 and 895
Bought the 617 for paroramas, turns out for some reason the strongest images I am producing are the vertoramas. Lets see if I get it with panos down the road. I like the last two vertoramas in the smugmaug gallery the best.
The first one is the old Pennsylvannia Railroad Grain Elevator - a star location in Enemy of the State. A refuge for Smith and Hackman. Number two the phone booth, I have been shooting the same one since at least 2010, probably the best attempt so far.
Shot twelve to get seven. Lucky at that rate, blew one I would have liked to have seen. Also discovered film is pretty resilient stuff at least Ilford Delta 400 is. "Developed" a two roll batch for the full time in wetting agent then redid with the right stuffr. Worked out just fine — I wasn't optimistic.

Icabod's sister?
The camera, the materials, whatever ain't going to make something good from what was mostly bad light yesterday at Ladew Gardens and the BMA Sculpture Garden. Awful harsh mid-day light and short shadows not a good mix, plus everything at Ladew is green. Boring, insipid and that is putting an optomistic spin on it. BMA a little better but not helped by not yet understanding the parallax error and viewfinder angle properties of the GX617, especially at close range. Pretty good at whacking off the top of the intended frame.

Fountain — East Side of the State Capitol
with the GX617. Near the Capitol, City Island and Steelton. Like the batting cages the most. Still trying to get a feel for this format — most too formal and blah.
Four rolls of film, half Delta 400 the other HP5 — Delta seems like the right choice for this format. Sixteen taken, fifteen posted, far better than the weekend performance.

Frederick County (MD) Barn Tour
So goodbye to faux panos. Made in the camera from now on with the yesterday arrived Fuji GX617. 2.25" high by almost 7" wide negatives. Enough film to go more than several feet wide printed. Lots more native ones and zeros than anything digital in 2016. Most owners create landscapes on color slide film with it — so contrarian logic says do anything but.
A roll consumed on the way down the block for a Martini last night and another roll on the Frederick County Barn Tour today. Turns out the barns wern't all that thrilling and the hundreds of DSLR owners sufficiently documented those, so the contrarian processes begins. Two rolls of color (supposed to be eight total snaps but I think I blew at least two) to get developed tomorrow. Also shot 1/2 dozen sheets of 4x5 in an architecturalish way — those may get developed in the AM as well.
The 4x5s were all on a tripod and the panos all handheld. The Martini shots look more like after than before — but weren't. Some focus problems with those, kept forgetting to focus by distance as the viewer is always in focus with this camera. Also, may need to do some revisionist thinking about depth of field and apertures. The Martini wides look sort of ok until close attention is paid to the vertical. It is in focus and it really shows. I presume lots of pixels will cover up focusing sins when viewed small but will be obvious when large.
Anyway was lots of fun. I think I see somthing like 3 wide and 1 high, like the camera, so will be interesting to see if I can up my game.
The color stuff got developed. The roll with a blown shot was fine, I must have misfed the film into the developing reel and screwed all of the images on the other. Oh, well need to be more careful. That goes for the 4x5 too with a double exposure over what was likely to be the best of those for the day. All posted on smugmug. The panos were on Portra 400 and the 4x5s on Ektar 100.

GG1 at the the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. Been a big fan of the GG1 since birth — it is genetic and I was born into a family that already had one. Lionel of course. Like JEN Srs. this one is Brunswick Green too. Is also mismatched with Tuscan Red passenger consist, as was his. Iconic and far prettier than its sucessors in the Northeast Corrider at the head of the Metroliners and Acelas. Design by Raymond Lowey.
Only a couple of snaps on the way up to Strassburg, PA, the usual problem of no place to pull over. All of these with the Canon 5DSR. Ten more with FP-4+ with Linhof Technikardan await developing tomorrow. Eight at the museum, two more at Robert Fulton Birthplace near the Mason-Dixon line.

For weeks, seeemingly raining. Inclined not to mope, choose to embrace.. Synapse — Photos in DC, in front of The White House, clueless targets with umbrellas, wet and shinny — perfect. NGA as fallback. I am off, pouring, espiodic bagel acquisition, sodden hipsters choose bagels over whatever. Parkway southbound, cats and dogs, wipers front and rear. Rethink outfit. Dick's do Northface? Likely. Yep. Amex swipped. Done. DC, wipers squeeling, dry... IOS reports lull. C and 9th vs. I and 16th. NGA first, White House defered post hiatus.
Scuplture Garden, NGA Basement, eMeter eAlerts. 16th and I. Looks, wierd, eFeed eMeter #2, off to see Jackson. Silhouettes on roof of 1600? War zone? Siri, WTF? Lockdown! WTF? No deluge, no umbrellas - 'ceptin mine, sans targets.

Avoided this for eight years, only went to shoot some large format film. All with the Linhof Technikardan, 90mm Grandagon and Ilford FP-4. Forgot my phone and my light meter so exposures were all rule-of-thumb from Sunny 16. Haven't shoot much with the 90mm and I knew the corners were going to be dark on the ground glass but they should not have bneen as dark as they turned out to be. Reason: the bag bellows was blocking the bottom and the left, so all of these are heavily cropped. Some are particularly dirty as I didn't do a killer job developing and washing the negatives either. All-in-all maybe only slightly better than the golf rounds on Thursday and Friday. No more broken body parts — so not all bad.
